A couple of water-cooling questions...

I want to get a water cooling system because my room gets fairly warm with my current set-up, and it is so loud (mainly CPU HSF). Would most of the mid-high end kits be able to keep the air temperature in my room down? Logic tells me yes, but actuality is often different.

Also, how hard is it to move a water-cooled system? The reason why is I am home from college, but will be returning next semester and would like to know what would be required before I do a conversion. Obviously I wouldn't be transporting it more than twice or so a semester, but if that one or two times would jeopardize my whole system it may not be worth it. Thanx in advance.

Firstly, spending your more on a high-quality Air Cooling set is a lot easier and effective for the price you pay.

Secondly, your room temperature doesn't go down, as a matter of fact the more effective cooling, the more heat will be pumped out of your machine and logic dictates that your room should get even warmer.

How hot exactly does your room get? Maybe you just need to ventilate it better - high ambient temperatures result in cooling working less effectively, which in turn means that the fan needs to spin up. Cooling your room may well fix the problem, and if you haven't already done so, you should get a can of compressed air and clean out your case & heatsinks.

I believe you misconceptualized the situation, but that's okay. I'm not ineterested in buying more fans for air cooling; I want a near silent system with temps ~35-40C under load. I anticipate buying new gfx cards for an SLI setup, but before that I want water-cooling. I want it to be essentially silent because I also want a BD drive, and it's no good to watch movies with fans whirring in the background.

But right now my room gets really warm. My room is the farthest from the air compressor, and I'm in Fl. Thanx for the help man.

My advice as a pretty experienced water cooler is to

Not buy any sort of kit, buy your own parts !

And depending on what parts you have in what chassis will determine how transportable it will be, ive moved my case about a fair bit and it is fine, as long as things such as radiators, pumps and resvoirs are screwed/attached to the case firmly, there is no problem there. As long as you have clamps over the tubing on your barbs, there wont be a problem with leaks. So a water cooled pc is basically as portable as an air cooled pc if its in an appropriate case i guess.

What case do you plan to use and what components do you have, we can point out parts to you if you want

yes build your own-!

dont listen to people going on about leaks-ive never heard of problems about leaks as long as you have some kind of clamps!

mine idols about 25oC on a single rad at standard ghz!!!

liquid cooling will never be more silent as you still need fans to cool the liquid down, liquid cooling is mearly for the extreme overclocker or someone that wants there system to look trick

Yeah what he said ^^ lol

But with water cooling you can use much slower and quieter fans and still get better temperatures than air cooling which is anotehr plus side.

Funkysnair, didnt you buy a thermaltake kit a while back? :D hehe

yeh i did as entery level liquid cooling but i got the muts nuts now so eat my shorts lol

(thanx for remembering me anyway i feel so special)

Awesome! Thanx guys! That was great information, and pretty much everything I was looking for. So far I plan to put it in the Apevia X-Cruiser, but I kinda wish I had a bigger case; so I'm not too attatched to mine right now.

What's so bad about the "pre-made" lcs systems? Do you all just like to be able to choose your own parts? I was kind of considering that, so I'm glad you all said something about that.

the problem is that some companys make good pumps but rubish radiators-cpu blocks etc-!!!

you need to get the best of each componant

this is an old loop but ive made i new one now just havent upped any pics :)

i havnt got the rad in front anymore its all internal

Ah, thank you sir for those pics. So does the air around your computer ever get warm? Right now it feels like I have a heater in my room, which isn't helpful when it's already warm at night. I plan on using the water cooling system on as many parts of the computer as I can -- starting with the CPU and GPU, and working my way down. Right now, as you can see in my sig, I've only got the 7800, but it heats things up pretty well.

Also, how hard would it be to make the PSU water-cooled? I know a company (Koolance, I think) already makes one, but it's far too expensive for a 1200W PSU regardless of the cooling system.

when you start liquid cooling more things then it gets complicated-you would need more than a mere dual radiator if you go past the cpu and gpu!

i am plaining on liquid cooling-cpu-2xgpu's-ram-n/s bridge-h/drives but im going to be using dual pumps on a dual loop (2 seperate loops)

it is expensive but i want to try it as a hobby and a project!

as for the air getting warm-yes it does! my bedroom window is open 24/7

as for the psu i have no idea and i dont think i would consider water cooling the psu-you do realise that by liquid cooling your pc you are going to cost yourself alot of money and you wont feel any benifits unless you overclock you system?

Oh, yes of course! OC'ing a computer is fundamental to it's mere existence! (At least in my world :P) Anyway, I'm ready to spend money on it -- for the first time in a while, I've got the financial means to play with something like this. Reason is that I'm taking a break from college and working full-time while staying at my parents house. My only bill each month is my car payment for just under $100 (but it's ~200/month for gas); so money is "flooding" in at the time (overtime at McDonalds is easy to get:D).

Oh, forgot to ask: Are you familiar with the quality of Aqua Computer parts? The company seems to make quality products, but my experience is somewhat limited.

I've googled around, but if you could give a site that would give me a lot of good info regarding water cooling, feel free to do so. I seem to just keep finding bits of information, or pages that aren't well laid out. But hey thanx for your help again.

i do not have any site for information, basicly i use this forum as my information!!

i can advise you on what parts to get!!!

i have never heard of Aqua Computer parts-i have had experience with---\/
