Hey everyone, just want to say before I make this post that yes I've searched the forums, in fact I've searched many forums with no answers to my specific issue. This isn't the same "enable legacy usb support" or "bad dvd drive" issue everyone else has.
I've got a two year old laptop I'm trying to upgrade from Windows 7 RC x86 to Ultimate x64. It's the iso you can download from Microsoft, burned with ImgBurn. The same DVD boots without issue on another PC. I'm currently running the x86 version and want to upgrade to x64, which introduces more issues.
I have checked my BIOS to make sure Legacy USB Support is enabled (I can change boot devices to the DVD drive, it just ignores it after doing that and boots from HDD anyway). This is the same DVD drive I burned the DVD with, the DVD which is perfectly bootable in another computer.
Since I'm upgrading from x86 to x64, the other options such as using a USB stick or just mounting/running the setup.exe don't work because you can't use the boot data or run the setup.exe for x64 W7 inside of an x86 Windows installation. I plan to do a "custom" install, which means I want the hard drive formatted, but I don't want to format until I'm sure I can boot the W7 disk.
Any ideas? This is driving me crazy, and the solution is probably going to be very simple and make me feel like a dork. Thanks.
