A Few Harddrive Questions

ok im getting a new pc. i have a few questions about different things i want to do..first i want to take out the hardrive from the pc im currently using and put it in the new pc as a 2nd drive..first how do i do this do i just put it in with everything still on the drive or do i have to format it.i dont think i should have to format it the only thing that concerns me is the operating system being on the 2nd drive and the first one so please advise how i should handle this.also when adding a 2nd drive is there anything special i have to do when i add it..what will happen when i add it then boot do i have to set anything special up if so what do i do.

Ummmm, im guessing u have a IDE PATA HDD. If you are runn Xp for example the HDD should be formatted to NTFS so if you get ur new PC and have a new XP Installed on that machine you should be able to put the HDD you got at the min in as a slave drive. Just make sure you swap the jumpers from Master to Slave.

umm no if u have the new hdd set as the first boot priority. If it does delete the boot.ini file on the slave hdd then reboot !. Be very carfull if you do this !. But you shouldnt have too.

yea be careful you could lose alot of files. also, if youve had norton system works at all... it could really screw up the process.

If you're looking to save the data, then I guess you shouldn't format it. But if you have everything backed up, go ahead and format it with NTFS. Well, I'd recommend NTFS, since it's supposed to be more stable and support larger drives.
