I read the sticky but im still lost, sorry.

Anyway,
I have a Dell Inspiron model 2650 laptop and I was looking at some of the system properties and saw something that really caught my eye....its a pentium4 and only has 128MB of RAM:eek: I desperatley want to upgrade to the maximum RAM which Dell told me was 512MB of RAM. My question is, since my laptop has 2 memory slots my local computer store said use (2) 256MB RAM (to equal the 512) sticks to get full potential. What kind of RAM would you recommend for my application for cheap(money wise)????

Also,
Ive been seeing these PC3200 and PC2700 etc. and I was wondering what this means and how can I find out what my laptop has?

Thanks alot!!!

Also,

From a product>>>>>>> PNY 256MB PC2700 200pin DDR SODIMM Memory Module

From the above, what does that "200pin" mean? There are some with 144pin too. I was wondering whats the difference?

Memory for laptops does have a slight difference in the number of contacts. The model you have runs on PC2100 regardless of ads seen. But to determine if and what upgrades of hardware can be performed you need to first look over the system specifications provided by Dell at their web site.

"Intel® Mobile Pentium® 4-M Processors running at 1.4GHz, 1.5GHz, 1.6GHz or 1.7GHz combined with Intel 845MZ chipset
Up to 512 MB PC2100 DDR RAM
Displays of 14.1-inch or 15-inch (1028 x 768 resolution)
Video Graphics by NVIDIA GeForce 2Go 100, 8MB or 16MB
Hard drives of 20GB, 30GB or 40GB
Fixed Optical drives of 24X Max.CD-ROM, 8X Max. DVD, 8X Max. CD-RW, or 8X Max. DVD/CD-RW combination drives
Integrated 56K V.92 capable modem, integrated 10/100 Ethernet
Two USB ports for fast, easy connections with peripherals like digital cameras, personal digital assistants and gaming joysticks
One PC Card slot
Eight-cell 59 Watt Hour "Smart" Lithium Ion battery" http://www.dell.com/content/topics/...e/en/2002/2002_04_23_aus_000?c=us&l=en&s=corp

PC3200 and PC2700 are the JEDEC names given to memory modules. The name simply means that certain module has a maximum bandwidth speed of the indicated number.
Example - A PC2100 module has a burst rate of 2,100 MB/s.

200pin is a memory type specifically for notebooks. Based on your current memory you would want to match it with the same pin, as that is the type supported by your processor. They have 200pin DDR SO-DIMM and 200pin DDR2 SO-DIMM to choose from as well as some older pins.

That memory is compatible and looks fine for your laptop.
