A laptop and new install

Its a dell laptop. I don't want to play with this. Its older and want to wipe.
Dell inspiron 6000. He does not have a clue of a backup disk. Cant find a recovery on the partition. I have a corp ver and authorized. I have a retail xp pro that is mine. Can i use either or as long as i can get the drivers?
Or do i need a oem ver for or from Dell. XP as mentioned.

First of all, Does it have a recovery Partition on it ? That would be the easiest way to fix it..Does it start up and are you able to get to your desktop ?

Yes it starts. He does not know if it has a recovery partition. guessing it does. tried f8 and nothing. any suggestions.
