A LEGAL question on XP authentication

I recently loaded a legal copy of Microsoft Windows Xp Home Edition and I was an idiot and never registered it. Now my hard drive won't work. Is there a way to get it back the way it was? Thanks :o
 
you didn't register it or you didn't active it??
you have to go through the activation wizard and either activate it online or over the phone
