Can't get comp to boot from CD-Rom drive

I've been having a ton of probs with a computer that i was given. I have been able to get the rest of it done apart from one little prob that i can't figure out. i have reformatted the HD in my own PC but still cannot get it to reinstall Windows because the Cd-Rom is unavailable to boot from. any ideas?

Did you...

You probably did this, or DID YOU?

1. Set the CMOS (usually [Delete] or [F12] whenever you start your comp) to search the CD-ROM as a boot device?

did that alienationware have tried what lorand suggested also but no joy. have moved the HD to my test PC and formatted and installed xp works fine on that but when i put it back into it's home i still get nothing. Think its a Motherboard failure it's the only thing i haven't tried.

The CMOS....

Alot of funny things can happen (on startup) when the CMOS battery is drained. You probably need a replacement CMOS battery.
