A New Issue

I recently replaced my mobo and when I got back up and running I started to have OS issues. It would just hang before I got to my desktop. So I just removed to OS and reinstalled.

Now the new problem is with the HD it shows the same used and free space as when the mobo went but all of my program files and documents are not there. Is there any way to restore them??

Are you running XP or another version of Windows? If you deleted the previous installation of Windows all programs will have to be installed fresh again. Your folders other then Windows, DocumentsandSettings, and Program Files will still be on the drive. Those three main directories are installed and removed by the installer. Using Windows Explorer you can see what is on the drive at this time.

Are you suggesting that the harddrive, with the fresh install of XP, is reporting that the space is used when in fact it isn't?

For instance. With everything installed, all your programs and documets and everything, let's say that the HDD was saying used 30GB, free 10GB. Now that you have a fresh install it's still reporting 30GB used, 10GB free?

That doesn't make any sense.

Did you repartition and format the drive before the new install?

Otherwise what it sounds like is that you left everything in tact, reinstalled Windows and the files are still on your harddrive, but not accessible in Windows because they need to be reinstalled. Your documents won't be accessible because Windows would have created a new account. Even if you used the same login name it would have created {login name}.001

You're going to have to surf your drive for your documents in the old account, delete everything in the Program Files folder and reinstall all your apps and games.
