A new midrange build

Hi guys my brother asked me if I could put something together for him as a good all round machine. He won't need SLI or anything hardcore, just a decent pc. He plays some games so a good midrange card will be required. He needs everything except for speakers and OS.

The budget is $1000 CDN. (Preferable if the price can be kept at $1000 or below including taxes and shipping.) and we will be looking to buy from tigerdirect.ca.

I put together something and I was looking to get some feedback or feel free to put something totally different together.

First of all, I wouldn't trust a PSU that costed 42.97 CAD with a case even tho Ultra is on the Good list.

Then, the 8600GT won't do for gaming. If you want DX10 card, go for 8800GTS or some DX9 card such as the 7900 or 7950.

Its quite hard to make such a build with a budget of 1000$ specially if u also need a monitor. But I would suggest you have a look at other websites such as NCIX.com and Directcanada.com

Here is a list from Directcanada.com

Antec Sonata III 124.17
Intel E4500 148.45
Asus P5B 125.95
Corsair 2x1gb DDR2-667 97.01
LG Burner 33.26
Western Digital 320gb 77.99
EVGA 7900GS 169.60

Linksys Wireless Network Adapter 28.88
Acer 19in LCD monitor 182.96
I am unsure of the network adapter and the screen, but I tried to keep them similar to what you had chosen.

Total 988.27$
This site has no shipping charges, so with only GST and basic insurance, it comes to 1047.57$ and it is easy to get a better processor, but this one already performs better than the X2 4200+.

Ultra products are great! I haev the same case but blue, its great and EXTREMELY sturdy. PSU should handle great too.

Cool, I didn't knew about that... In that case, you could use the money saved to get a better processor (staying with Core 2 Duo) or just to save some money.

Hey, we ended up going to tigerdirect today and he bought his parts there and we assembled it at home. We didn't get exactly what we wanted and we went over budget but it's a good system. He got a x2 5200, 7900 gs KO, 2gb ram, 19 inch monitor...a nice system. Thanks for your help.
