I have to comps e-machines and windows xp. Now if I were to take the hard drive from the other computer and place it in another one would I be able to get more memory in my second hard drive?

You don't get more memory in a hard drive! If the intended drive is larger then the one currently installed then you would have more room for larger page files used for virtual memory. A larger faster drive could also see the overall improvement in system performance depending on the eMachines model there. But you would most likely be using that as an additional drive intended for storage rather then replacing the primary.
