A question of quality

Hi,

I have an old Dell DXP051 with an Intel(R) Pentium (R) D CPU 3.20GHz.

The Processor Speed is 3.12 GHz with 4096 MB RAM.

The Operating System is Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.2600.

I've been getting some weird sounds for the computer and have been thinking of getting the following:

Dell XPS X8300-4004BK w/Core i5-2320 3GHz processor w/6GB of memory.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the two and which is the better quality? I don't know if I'm making a step up or down or staying the same.

Thanks

The XPS will blow that Pentium D away.

Pentium D 3.2ghz benchmark 887
i5-2320 3GHz benchmark 6003

What kind of sounds and from where? And the Core I5 will beat the Pentium D in everything, so in terms of quality the I5 is a lot better. What do you use your computer for?

Thanks guys for the quick reply! My wife and I are both retired. My wife used to teach High School Special Education and I worked for the Government. The computer will be used for goofing off. Nothing very special.

Although, it is a great toy, it is also a great information gathering tool. Especially when there are forums like this one.

Thanks again.

Yeah the XPS will outperform it in anyway.

Also its a good CPU and for doing just normal things, it will never underperform in my eyes.

Yep, the 2320 is a good part. Fast, affordable, has twice as many cores as the Pentium D. I'd say go for it! :)
