A8V-Deluxe with AMD X2 problems

Hi folks - first post here, I've got a new board Asus A8V Deluxe with original bios (1.09 I think) - so had planned to upgrade the bios first, but I can't get to dos or into the bios it just hangs on startup with:-

"Hardware Initiate Failed, Please Check Device !!!
The Bios does not be installed. Press <g> to continue!"

then:-

"CMOS Checksum Bad
*** Warning Unknown Processor ***
The processor(s) installed in your system are not known by the BIOS.
Please contact your BIOS vendor for appropriate updates.
CPU Fan Error!
Fatal Error.....System Halted"

The fan error is because I'm using a low-rotation speed Zalman fan - I can't get into the bios to switch off the warning, so I plugged another cpu fan (the one which came with the X2) into the moby cpu socket instead, and moved the Zalmon power to the CHA_FAN on the moby.

Do I have to upgrade the bios using an old AMD64 cpu before putting in the X2, or is something else wrong - ie dodgy bios chip? I've tried clearing the bios but no joy.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Ian

Yes you'll have to install your older AMD 64 and then update the bios. If you've got 1009 now, you'll need 1013 and higher to use the X2.
