Abit IC7-G

Three things:-

1. Has anyone had a problem getting hold the Abit IC7 -G?

2. Would anyone suggest an Abit IC7 - G as a good motherboard?

3. Has this motherboard caused any trouble/ problems for anyone?

Thats a good motherboard, availability shouldnt be an issue, as for performance and reliability, its a very solid board. If im not mistaken the G designator indicates onboard graphics which may or may not be 'difficult' to deal with (although i dont see why) if and when you decide to use a dedicated graphics card :)

Ok i can understand ASUS's -E (enhanced) but -G??? (errr... umm... "good"?) ... 'sides i thought the premium like was 'MAX'

yah but deluxe is different than premium :P ...the G might also mean gigabit ethernet but the abit -G boards are the most feature loaded except when a MAX model is also present in the line

Thats weird because I've seen the Abit IC7 and IC7-G as being sold as different boards so I recon that its got something to do with deluxe version or something.

As far as I can tell the IC7-G and IC7 Max II are the same board. There are three IC7 boards - the IC7, IC7-G, and IC7-MaxIII. The G model adds more SATA connections and more RAID options along with gigabit lan and a couple other things. The MaxIII model adds OTES (outside thermal exhaust system), a couple more SATA connections and a few more things. I have the IC7-G and it works quite well. Unless you have a poorly ventilated case or plan on havely a large RAID system you won't need the MaxIII

I feel really stupid asking this question, but I just want to make sure. I can't use a Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra on an Abit IC7-G because these are all the expansion slots on the board:
- Five 32-bit PCI Bus Master slots;
- Eight USB 2.0 ports (4 integrated + 4 additional);
- Three IEEE1394 (Firewire) ports;
- Integrated audio AC'92 v2.2
and the interface type on the graphics card is PCI Express (x16).

If I'm not mistaken the IC7-G is an s478 board and (I thought) no s478 boards had PCIe. So if you want to use that card you're going to need a 775, 754(?), or 939. OR you need to buy the AGP version of the 6800 (I THINK they have one). As for the differences in the IC7, IC7-G, MAXII, and MAXIII they are like yeti mentioned. (Got the MAXIII and it seems to have treated me ok [ton of BIOS revisions though]).
