Abnormal CPU Memory Usage HELP!

I've had a very annoying problem that has plagued my computer for quite some time, I've compared simple memory usage to a friend who has a worse off computer and the differences are really bad.

As you can see here, this picture shows you that my CPU Usage is at 52%, looking at what processes are running you can see their wicked HIGH, lastly if you look at the bottem you can see all the stuff I have open (which is practically NOTHING).

Its really bad when your computer that was built less than 2 years ago, lags from just trying to scroll down a wikipedia page.

I have just recently (like 3 days ago) reformatted because of this problem and finished updating every possible driver I could fathom and it still hasn't changed.

Processor: Intel Duo Core
Graphics: EN8800GTS Nvida ASUS
Ram: 2 gigs
OS: Win-XP Home

What I have done: Reformatted, checked to see if processor was dead (both worked fine according to the test), checked ram (all still detected), updated everything inside my device manager that I could possibly update (checked net for each individual device aswell just to be sure).

Help?

Uh?

This forum is turning out to be a huge let down... Not even a reply letting me know what I stated wrong and why no one can help me.

Well, first you need to find out what process is causing this anomaly... sort the processes by CPU usage as well as memory usage and see if there's a process constantly scoring high %'s. Try killing the hog process and see if that does anything.

The screenie you posted doesn't show the memory usage, though.

Also, double-check your display drivers. Missing/improperly configured graphics drivers may cause lag when performing basic operations that involve any graphics, like scrolling down a page, resizing/moving windows etc.

Have you tried gaming? Do any other programs lag?
Also, did this problem reappear instantly after re-installing windows? If not, try reinstalling again and this time, install one driver at a time, and then test your computer as thoroughly as you can (within reason, of course); this is a last resort but will likely reveal this... complication behind these strange events.

considering that you have 2 gigs of ram on a vista OS, and you have several programs and processes running, that's not TOO surprising.
but if you really need to look into it, sort your processes by memory usage, open the file locations of some of the processes or check the services of the processes that are using a lot of ram. you can simply end some of the processes that are unecessary.

also, use msconfig (type that in the start menu and press enter), go to the startup tab and uncheck any of the startup programs that you don't need running at boot.

if that doesn't help just post again and i'll help some more if i can.

I dont see anything abnormal about your memory usage. I have twice as many items using 10mb or more of memory then you do and I only have firefox and the task manager as the main things open. I also have svchost and explorer listed higher up with svchost listed 10 times and using about 190mb. I dont use internet explorer but when I opened it I saw the cpu usage spike up to about that 50% level you have listed there, but then after a few seconds of idling it drops down to 0%.

Try closing all those open programs and see if your cpu drops down to 0%. Its either your internet explorer or something connected to it that is using all the cpu usage. When I sort my processes by cpu usage mine shows "System Idle Process" as listed at 99 cpu when my computer is idle which makes sense. If your computer is idle and internet explorer is still using that 50% then it obviously is doing something in the background, maybe some kind of plugin.

Highly doubt anything is wrong with your computer, just that you have some tweaking, disabling, optimizing or whatever to do.

Okay... i posted first thinking you were talking about physical memory usage but i realized you were talking about cpu usage. my bad. :D

from what i've seen the cpu usage percentage fluctuates when you're opening programs or doing other tasks.

i would think it has more to do with your processors. depends on what type of processor you have but also, like i previously posted, having a lot of background programs running might be hurting your comp's performance.
