Hi all, this is Jaydeep Biswas. I want to get installed an anti virus software into my laptop. My question is which is better antivirus software free or paid and which can keep my PC more safe.

Thanks.

The free version of Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. There is no need to use a paid program. All it take is a little bit of common sense when browsing and don't download anything and everything you see.

I keep telling the same thing to other people too,but they just don't listen lol.
They download and install everything they can find and later they complain that everything works slow for "no reason".Yea...no reason...lol...
And watch this johnb35...the worst thing is they think that cannot be fixed anymore and they buy new computers...lol.I guess they never heard of the word FORMAT or what you already said..."COMMON SENSE WHEN BROWSING BY NOT DOWNLOADING ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING THEY SEE". ;););)

I disagree with johnb35 every antivirus ive ever had has been a free download and was rubbish compared to kaspersky which you have to pay for.

Buy kaspersky you will not regret it.

Well some antivirus programs need to be properly configured in order to work good.It is not always enough to just install them.Unless if you use crapy antivirus software which has nothing lol.
There are good AND bad free antivirus softwares same as there are good AND bad paid antivirus softwares.
It is completely up to a person to choose what kind of protection he/she will use.
And the more knowledge you have, the better protection will be.Because there is no perfect antivirus and perfect OS.If you do not know how to properly operate a computer,it is completely normal that a person will sooner or later screw things up no matter how good OS and antivirus is lol.

Cheers!

I use MSE and Malwarebytes. MSE is good - I've definitely seen it block and kill malware but I've seen Malwarebytes pick up things that MSE missed, which apparently is what Malwarebytes is known for.

On a fairly regular basis update and scan with both. You have to manually update the free version of Malwarebytes but if you have a decent connection speed it doesn't take long.

I also scan with SuperAntiSpyware. Seems to work well.

One of the things I like about MSE is you can easily kill it if you want - like doing online gaming. And easily reinvoke it when you want.

You don't have to be on bad sites to pick up malware.
