im thinking about selling my 3800 and buying a dual core, but will i see a big preformance increase? all i really do is game and get on the net? what exactly is the purpose of a dual core?

for gaming, not really depends on the games, some are optomised for dual core in which case you will (graphics card and other conditions pending) see improvement.
In surfing, no difference at all

some are some arn't, fx-60 , and fx-62 are dual dore
 
I would say that in a majority of games, you will notice a decrease in performance, simply because there are still alot of games that arent dual-core optimized, and some dual-core games still dont show that much of an improvement.
 
So does this mean dual-core cpus will not be good for gamers until the future?
are they bad to buy for gamers as of now?
 
If you want to upgrade, do this. Get a motherboard that will support your current processor and a dual core, if this is alredy the case, than just wait until it seems necessary.
 
ok well how are the fx's? and why was my 3800 cheaper that lets say a 3500? i bought my 3800 for 160 then at microcenter thier 3500 is 250. is the 3500 better?

Dont' know why the 3800 was cheaper..... because the 3800 is better.
 
wait a year for multi cores to get better support then buy one. you wont get much benifit from them yet.

Alot of people would disagree, namely people using Linux distros. :P

Linux always seems to be far ahead of every other OS simply because almost anybody who puts time into researching can add features to a Linux OS.

thats b/c linux users tend to use open souce apps they compile them selves, so it runs based on their spicific hardware. ofcourse you need the right compilre for you hardware.
