About Processors.??.?

I was told that Athalon were better then Intel for gaming.
Mainly because Athalons allowed multiple programs better then Intels.
example: *(World of Warcraft, WinAmp, Team Speak, and possible webpages up at the same time)

Im not sure if this is true or not, but I would like to know.

Also, What is the deal with Dual Core technology?
Im building a gaming pc, so which processor would be better (2 hard-drives, 1gig of ram *currently* and 7800 gt-nvidia)

Intel Pentium
D 820 CPU @ 3.0 GHz w/ 800FSB Dual-Core 2x1MB Cache, 64 Bit

or

Intel Pentium 4 650 CPU w/HT Technology 3.4GHZ 800FSB 2MB Cache, 64 Bit()

The 650 would be better. Go with an athlon 64 though it beats the crap out of the pentium in games.

Hmmm

Dual cores on one processor mean that those processor can theoretically (and in fact physically) do more at once as a result (due to having two cores instead of the usual one). This feature comes in handy when considering multitasking, or basically running more programs at once. As a result the processor utilisation is much lower and allows for greater usability of the processor under load.
