about the FSB..

hi, im just trying to understand something with the FSB. If i get a 1066FSB CPU with the ram at 1333 will that slow the ram down to 1066?

Depends. First, I assume we're talking about DDR3 RAM here, correct? Anyways... if you have unlocked the memory speed, no, it won't slow down. If you have the divider set to 1:1 (which usually gives the best performance, unless the memory clock is set significantly higher than that of the FSB), the rated speed of the RAM will be only half of the rated speed of the FSB e.g. running DDR3-1333 on a mobo that's got an FSB of 1066 would backclock it down to 533. However, since DDR3 RAM can clock so high, you'd better set the DRAM:FSB ratio to 2:1, or to unlock the memory speed altogether (if possible) to get all out of your RAM.

yeah im talking about ddr3 ram...well i am assuming that the fsb can only run at the max speed of the slowest hardware..the motherboard will have an fsb of 1666 but i was looking at the quad cpus and they have jumped in price maybe because of the stock market but yeah the 1066 quads are much cheaper but wouldnt they slow the ram to 1066 when the ram is 1333 (pc10600)? cause if thats the case then ill just get the 1066 pc8500 ram
