About to get Video card but need power advice!!

Quality as well as performance value there. You just happened to be more forunate then some with the XFX.

You still havent said where these unfortunate people are! Evga has got better over the years but theres nothing special about them as far as quality compaired to XFX! You can find just a many bad reviews about either one! I go by the experience of using them!

Well, the 7900GT's belong to the lower end of the high end market and ATi will have a card to rival that in that part of the market, I think its the X1950 pro and the X1950XT. When consumers buy a card, they first work out which company to go with, Ati or nvidia, and THEN work out what manufacturer to go with.

It depends on where they buy the card from too. Not everyone buys online. If you are a newbie and are looking in a retail store and just happen to see... "I like the looks of this one!". You may go into a repair shop with limited brands carried there obviously and ask "what's a good card you sell?". The dealer there wants to seel the brand he carries.

Thats not what you said, this is what you said!

Comparing ATI tto NVidia is kind of like comparing apples to oranges there

And? You forgot to include: "The comparison here is on brands of cards not chip manufacturers." as well.

I guess you have a point there. But when it comes to really weighing your options and getting the BEST card, then its a comparison of the companies first, then brand. I choose the brand based on the caps they use, bundle and their overclockability, but that ALL comes AFTER I decide what chip I go with.

When you are looking over specifications for one chip the decisiion that comes later is obviously which is the better make for the model card you are looking at for the most part. The card now used here is the second MSI model and has done well for what it is. The previous build saw and Asus GeForce FX5200 128mb model followed by the MSI 128mb equivalent which later to be replaced by the ATI Radeon 9550 256mb card. The Asus model is still in use now in another build until that case is replaced later this year.
