Friend asked me to help him build a jaw dropping pc. His uses are gaming and alot of 3d work using Maya, 3d max, bryce, poser, and future applications he may be using during internships. I am a huge fan of new egg and have gone the route of purchasing most of the stuff from there.

those are the items we plan on buying. I am curious if everything we have is compatible. Also are the performance increases from the 7800gtx 256 and the 512 signifigant enough to justify the extra cost. also curios about memory options and what you think may be better.

thanks in advance for you information

yea that looks like a pretty sick computer. everything looks good. the 512mb is probably worth the extra cost but they are very hard to get. im almost positive that newegg.com doesnt have them. stick with the 7800gt.

i think i read the cost diff. btwn the 256 7800 and 512 7800 is almost 2times. so ur almost better off getting 2 256mb 7800 and putting them in SLI. idk how positive i am but i think you are going to be paying a very pretty penny to get the 512 mb.

7800 gtx ultra is definatly worth the money
for now and futur because...
A. it plays new games at max with out a problem..
B. It will be able to run futur games at max also with out a problem...
and C. its just a great card...

also....thats a kick ass set up you got there Psu looks bad-ass....

I have no idea when Direct X 10 is comming out, but if it is going to be anytime soon the ultra would lose a little bit of its shine. Isn't it true that all games based on dx10 are not goning to be albe to run on dx9 cards (including the ultra)? I'm pretty sure that is correct, but if not please correct me. Now don't get me wrong the ultra is a good card, but if dx10 is anywhere near, then the life of the ultra is going to be cut short for people who are wanting to play the latest games.

Just my 2 cents on the topic.
Bob

Just did a little research and it seems like dx10 isn't going to be for awhile, so splurge.
