You should really specify between PCI-E or AGP.

There are many newer and better cards for PCI-E, I personally find either the 7600GT or the 7900GT to be very good cards for the price. The 7900GTX is also quite a nice card.

For AGP I think the best card is the X850XT or something in that range, also a good card for AGP is this:

I didn't even know they had one of those for AGP.

The best AGP card would be either the 7800GS or X850XT.

The best PCI-E card would be the 7950GX2.

I bought the 7950gx2 and I must admit that it is a monster.
Price was $555 at the time.

In performance and price, I would say a 7800/7600 GT/GTX. (PCI-E) The top of the line is generally overpriced, with not much performance gain.

I would actually say the 7900GT is the best card for the price, since you can get it for only ~$240.
