Access denied.

Running Windows 2000. Lately, I can't do shit in MS-Dos. Any command I give, I get "Access denied." I am the administrator, there is only one account on the computer, etc. I've tried these basic things, but never encountered this error before, so, I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks,
Sean

You usually cant edit/open/delete a file which is currently being used. Make sure you dont already have it open, or your computer is not using it.

I'm not trying to edit anything. I'm opening cmd.exe and trying to do simple commands, such as 'ipconfig' or 'ping.' Nothing works.. All I ever get back is "Access denied."

Found this on another forum...

Thanks for your response.

I wanted to let everyone know that I solved the problem. Unfortunately I probably spent 6 hours on this problem and was up until 2:00am last night trying to solve it without success. Today I came home from work with a fresh mind, and decided to try something that I should have done first.

I disabled the firewall and NAV. Bingo, cmd.exe in the system32 directory works .

Further research directed me to Kerio Personal Firewall, where I found in the Application Security, System Security settings for cmd.exe, the option "When this application is starting" was set to Deny. Don't ask me how it got that way. I changed it to Permit and my problems are gone.

Does that work?

When I disable the firewall, the CMD does work, however, I'm not sure how to change the appilcation security setting for cmd.exe. I searched all through Kerio and I can't find it. I'm using version 4.2.2 of Kerio and it is free, not paid for/registered.

Thank you for helping me pinpoint the problem.
