Hi all, I need a lil help?
I have an Acer Aspire 5602 Laptop,
I need to get a graphics card as some of the games i want arnt supported by the built in graphics accelerator you get with it.
can i do that? and what are my options?
locking the bios is irrelevant for the ops question even if the bios was locked on a desktop or a laptop as long as there is a decent graphics card it will play the games that are desired regardless of weather the bios is locked or not
your laptop has an intergrated gpu basically meaning it is embedded and hence soldered to the board meaning no upgrade is possible, you will either have to buy a better laptop or maybe get a desktop pc
Wrong. A locked bios is indeed relevant to the OP because he won't be able to configurate his bios, meaning he won't be able to upgrade i,e his CPU. For the GPU, he really can't change it because it is as i said earlier an intergrated GPU which you for some unnecessary reason had to repeat after me.
Never buy a desktop, why? Because it's pure stupidity.. Just ask any mod or admin on this forum. Building a desktop can save you a lot of money and in fact give you a far better performance for the buck compared to what you can buy in the stores. Oh, and please don't forget the overclocking, which alone saves you A LOT more cash than anything..
Edit: There are several guides in this forum on how to build one, if you need help just make a thread and ask.
i have upgraded a graphics card on a mobo with locked bios and it enabled it to play better games i never mentioned anything a about a cpu
the op never asked about the cpu only gpu, fair enough point that desktops are better but depending on the person depends on what hardware they wish to have that is there choice there are many reasons why person would prefer a laptop to a desktop. this is besides the point as the op has laptop not a desktop, and came to ask a question on wheather he can upgrade his gpu not asking if we can advise him how to build a desktop or purchase one, it wasnt even mentioned in the original post
please note i did not simply repeat what you said i elaborated and explain the reason why it would be not to possible to upgrade so he op can understand more about why it is not possible
^^ Correct
A locked bios means NOTHING when it comes to gpu's
But, most likely you cannot upgrade the gpu anyways as it is integrated meaning its built/soldered onto the motherboard. Their are only a few laptops out there that have the ability of upgrading the gpu.
I never said that a locked bios has anything to do with the GPU.
The OP asked about upgrading his GPU indeed, yet he will need to upgrade his CPU too in order to tackle todays games because his CPU is old, very old if you consider that it is an Acer Inspire we'er talking about. So, there you go. When the OP asks for Upgrading you should fill him inn with everything.
Well, ok. Who are you talking too? I never said that a locked bios has anything to do with GPU's.
1. he can't upgrade his GPU because it is intergrated into his MOBO
2. Even "If" he could upgrade his GPU, he would need a better CPU which he can't achieve. (I,e more + faster Ram too)
3. A bought computer from the store always lock their bios, no way to overclock. He can't even change the voltages..
4. He'll need a new desktop in order to play todays game maxed out, or smooth.
5. Never buy computers from the store, build them instead. Why? you lose a lot of money when buying from the store and you'll have the ability to overclocked when building it. You can ask any known person on this forum to confirm that.
For instance, you can spend 1k dollars on a comp and build it better than a comp you'll need to pay almost 2k for. Also, you can invest in a liquid cpu cooler and overclock beyond what you can ever buy from the store.. and there you go.
Conclusion: No, you can't change your GPU and you wont be able to play new games on it what so ever. Heck, you won't be able to even launch new games because you don't have the specs needed even for the mininum requirement.

1. I already stated that
2. Why would he have to upgrade cpu after upgrading a gpu?
3. Always? No but, most of the time
Their are hacks out there to get around it (IE: flashing bios)
4. True
5. Agreed unless you have no need for overclocking
no offense, but i really dont think you should be giving out any advice just yet. you should still be learning right now
there are tons of laptops that can play todays games, they just arent cheap. aspire ones having old processors? just because they come with processors from 2008 or so does not mean they cant play newer games. locked bios? has nothing to do with graphics cards, only compatibility/port/drivers really affects that. we have an aspire one laptop at my work with intels gma4500hd in it, and we played modern warfare 2 on it just fine
1. I was the one stating that first.
2. Because games such as Bad Company 2 require a QUAD if you want to run smooth at all. And an acer aspire as sucky cpu clocks..
3. fine.
Well, we're not talking about XPS laptops here. We're talking about Acer aspire.. the old aspire that can't even run Runescape with their new HD function. I also think it will lag when watching YouTube Videos in 720p if i remember correctly.
Like i've said over and over again. I never stated that a locked bios has anything to do with GPU's.. Judging by the current situation, i don't require any learning here.. If you have anything to learn me feel free to do so. If i'm wrong, correct me.. But, what have i said that's "completely" wrong here? (What aspire did you use to change your GPU?) Keep in mind that he's using acer aspire 5602.
correcting myself, i did not mean to say aspire one. but we have an acer aspire at my work (not "one") that plays games and hd videos fine. its the 4736. we also have one with a 8600gt in it
the aspire series from acer arent bad. his may be old, but the newer ones are nice. so when you said acer aspires cant play games, i had to correct that. because i have played modern warfare 2 on a 500 dollar laptop at my work.
5. Thats not true when it comes to low-end PCs. You can buy a desktop for $300 I would like to see you build a PC with better specs and an windows OS for the same. Also anybody who buys a prebuilt system obviously dose not care and most likely doesn't even know what overclocking is so I see that as an irreverent statement.
