Acer Vs. Sony

I have been looking at cheap laptops and am undecided between an Acer Aspire 1644 or a Sony Vaio VGN FS415E.... both around £580....

if anyone could give me a pointer, it would be very much appreciated. Although the Acer has good specs, the Vaio is a more trusted name in my eyes, and comes with a wider variety of software.

Acer has a trusted name throughout the world, but comparing these two models, I prefer the Sony's FS series. Its a great line and they've got excellent screens and a great build. Are you getting them at the same specs? I know the Acer comes in 2.0Ghz.
 
im currently working at acer's repair centre and most of the failures if seen are due to idiots using them and mistreating them. there are not many that have been caused by hardware failure but like anything in life there will always be the risk of it breaking.
bear in mind a lot of the money on the sony is going on its styling

that looks very promising.... and the main concern i had with the sony was that too much the money would be spent on styling and aesphetics rather than real power....

the acer has a better graphics card... and i will get the 2.0ghz processor.

so far, 3/4 replies looks promising.

Can i ask Invisible Man why not to get an acer please.... and also, when i said acer did not have a trusted name, i meant compared to sony, probably as sony make such a wide range of electronics. Most people i speak to also say that i should go for acer.

With most computers, as long as you treat them right, they'll go on pretty much forever....right?

To be honest with u r best bet is go to sony and acer website and check out there support that including software update, bios update, and other updates than check out which pc model u r interested and see their support for that model. Read www.pcworld.com and other magazine like that online than make ur decision. Because everyone have a preference. Think of it as an investment. choose wisely and u will pick the right one. Also, write down what u want that computer to do. Is it for Business or just playing game.

Also keep in mind u also want to know if u can upgrade and what is the maximum upgrade for that pc like RAM, hdd. These are some of thing u should research on their support website. So the choice is ur, do more research out of this forum.

Acer trusted name hummm. Before u jump into conclusion do ur research and don't talk to any store saleperson. At the end u will choice the right one."RESEARCH"

I have two Acer laptops, both run wonderfully and I haven't ever had a problem with them. They're trusted in my book.

wrong acer is a perfectly good brand, i would prefer it to a dell. but yes i think that you are rightr about the sony, they are a good brand.

If I have the money to spend and I only have two choice between this 2 I would go for Sony over Acer. Style and performance.:D
 
My Sony laptop in the sig works great. I've already dropped it a couple of times [the second time it fell screen first:eek:]but nothing happened to it, not a scratch. I also get decent sound quality and the pretty screen beats those of all my friends' :cool:

So I go for Sony.

hmmmm, well, the acer i can afford is better spec than the vaio i can afford:

2GHz Processor
100Gb DDHD
1024Mb RAM

so, i think ill go with that, aslong as i treat it right, it'll work fine.... admittedly, the vaio looks nicer...
