you could do it the right way, and get some quiet fans

i don't think that will work.

damping the side of the case is fine, and all, but the noise is still going to escape just as much through your fans, just like it does now
 
My fans are quite quiet now already but i can hear my zalman VPU fan and new top fan over the other 4 that are fan contorlled and its annoying and i dont want to buy another controller
