Add and remove programs question/problem

When ever I open Add and remove programs it is a bit strange. I see programs I have but lets say I want to remove them from my computer, which most of them I can't because when I select the program I can't do anything. Usually when you would select a program it would say change/remove but here I can't. Can someone tell me what is going on, how it got like this and also can I fix it like this I can take some stuff I don't need out.

What programs are you trying to remove? Did you delete files from the programs before going to the add/remove program menu?

well if you deleted the uninstallation file, then you can't uninstall the program.

So your saying if I deleted the uninstallation file I can't uninstall the program. Well would that happen if I go on my start menu and do delete and empty it out from my reycling bin it will delete the uninstallation file?
