ok i just downloaded photoshop cs2 and i want to get rid of useless memory hogging programs that im not gonna use, but im too scared to delete thinking it might be important.

Since I have photoshop, do i need:
-hp photo & imaging 3.1
-broadjump client foundation
-hp photo and imagine 2.0 - photosmart cameras
-microsoft plus! digital media edition
-photosmart 140 , 240 , 7200, 7600, 7700, 7900 series

i also have a pretty old printer. Its the HP PSC 500 (printer, scanner, copier)
The installation disk does not work on xp. The printer works fine because of the HP Deskjet preloaded printer drivers.
But, do i need the other program HP PSC & office jet 3.0 even though it was on my pc even before i ever connected my printer to the comp?

please help me out here.

If Photoshop CS2 works out alright for you there the other HP elements can be removed since they are outdated. Are you using a digital camera? You may want to keep that while dumping Broadjump and the MS Plus. I don't see where the last takes away any large amount of memory however. The other idea would be to use the msconfig utility to simply disable everything but what is needed for video and sound. That keeps stuff from loading along with Windows and frees up ram there.

On the printer you would look for the updated drivers needed. You could let XP perform an automatic search to see if it downloads them for you. But downloading and saving an update that supports XP to a folder for later transfer to removable media is advised. With a far newer Deskjet model works well here with only the basic drivers installed. You have preloaded there.
