I recently purchased an IDE to SATA converter adapter so that I can install my old hard drive (ATA) in my Dell XPS 400 that only accepts SATA drives. I put the adapter on my harddrive, and the drive into the computer. When I turned it on, it would freeze at the Dell loading screen (before attempting to load Vista).
So I said to heck with it, took out the hard drive so everything was like it used to be. Only to find that now when the Vista loading screen displays (with the little green loading bar) it freezes too. Now the only way I can access my o.s. is thru safe mode.
I've ran chkdsk, put in the Vista cd and selected repair, neither of which worked. It always loads for a couple seconds and then the green bar stops moving.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am not really concerned with getting the second hd working, it's only 40GB anyway. I just want my computer back! Thanks for your time!
