Adding a second monitor to Dell XPS 8100

Greetings. I have two monitors, a Dell and a Samsung, connected to my Dell computer. When I check the monitor setup under expanded desktop, my computer recognizes the Dell as 1 and the Samsung as 2, and shows me the name for the monitor when I click on the icon for monitor 1 and monitor 2. However, right now it only displays on the Dell monitor. The samsung displays a box that says "Not Optimum Mode Recommended Mode: 1280x1024 60 Hz.

When I initially connected both monitors everything worked fine for about a week. Then my computer did an automatic upgrade about a week ago, and restarted, and since then I have not been able to do anything with the second monitor. I have reconnected everything, started the computer with only one monitor connected and then connected the second one, etc. Nothing seems to work.

Both monitors are LCD, the Dell is connected through a VGA adaptor, the Samsung is connected directly to the VGA slot.

I would appreciate any help.

Unfortunately the problem is the samsung monitor
The message "Not Optimum Mode Recommended Mode: 1280x1024 60 Hz"
is common for all samsung monitors that have this error message displayed as the monitor is faulty.
If you google that message you will be quite surprised how many samsung monitors suffer this fault.
Replace the samsung monitor and averything will work correctly.
