Adding additional fans

I want to add additional computer fans but i want to run them off of thier own power source. I was thinking about taking a power supply out of an old computer to supply power to the fans. But how would i be able to turn the fans on without the power supply being connected to a motherboard for the on and off switch. Is there a way to rig up a switch to the power supply to turn the fans on and off.

Yep you could make your own switch that goes to the green wire on the PSU motherboard block connector then using one of the black wires on that block as ground. That would turn the PSU on/off. Or you could cut the green wire and one of the black wires and solder them to the PC PSU's green/black cables so when you press the power button on your PC it would turn both PSU's on.

I may have not explained this as fully as I could have so any questions post back.

EDIT: also why add another PSU, if you are short of rails to plug your fans into you could either buy molex splitters or just daisy chain the fans..

Got another question on my cpu sometimes when i restart it i get a an error say dram set to tightly and it keep just rebooting it self. And i have to turn it off and leave it off for awhile and then turn it back on and it starts up fine. But i can leave it on for days and never have a problem until i restart it.

You can go into the bios and set the memory timings to auto... or you can also set the bios to default. By the sounds of it the latencies are to tight resulting in the error. Try the RAM on default settings and if it don't fix the problem you either have bad/faulty RAM or you need to lower the latencies/timing lower.

As for the xbox you can buy after market coolers that simply clip on the back for 10-20 bux. They work very well :)

Yeah I would stick to buying one of the ones that clip to the back. Opening up the XBox voids your warranty, and with the imminent red ring of death, voiding your warranty is the last thing you want. Our XBox was perfectly fine, one day it just got the red ring. Since it happens so often, Microsoft has an extended warranty of like 3 years just for this problem. We got it back and we got the ring again. My friends say if it happens twice they just give you a new XBox with a free game to keep you happy. An external fan is the best way to go.

You can mod a computer fan inside your Xbox 360, but it voids your warranty.

I reapplied the thermal compound on my Xbox 360, and it's running great. I never got the RRoD, but I ended up painting the case, adding a side panel and green cathodes, I plan on modding a 60mm fan on one of the heatsinks, the external fan was to loud.
