Adding an external hard drive

I am setting up my new PC.
I have a Maxtor 3000DV 80 gig external firewire connected hard drive from my old PC that I have set up and it is working fine.
I also have a Maxtor 120 gig internal drive that I don't have an internal bay for. I bought an external hard drive enclosure (firewire/usb) and put the harddrive into it, with the jumpers set to master.
If I plug this setup into my PC with the usb cable, it works perfectly. However, if I use the firewire cable, and attempt to daisychain the new external drive with the existing 3000DV drive, it not only does not show the new drive in Windows Explorer, it also takes out the 3000DV drive.

What part of the setup have I got wrong. I can run the new external drive on usb, but would preder to have it daisychained to the existing firewire drive if possible.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try refreshing the device list in Device Manager?

Is this what's happening:
1. You install 3000DV Firewire drive. It is assigned "E:"
2. You install the Maxtor USB drive. It is assigned "F:"
3. You unplug both drives
4. You plug in the Maxtor Firewire. It's the first drive so it gets given "E:"
5. The 3000DV is then connected and it's drive letter isnt refreshed to its given "E:" but "E:" is taken so it doesnt show.
