Adding cables to PSU

I have extra cables for my PSU for my PCI-E and harddrive. I can't put them anywhere right? I have to put them in a designated spot for them?

I.E. It is marked Harddrive and/or PCI-E on the PSU?

Yes it matters. I assume you're talking modular?

PCI-E uses only 12v and ground, so it will matter.

I'm a little confused though... I have two different types of cables.

I have a 6 pin which is red on both sides.

But then I have a 6 pin + 2 that is red on one side. But the other side is 2 black 5 pin connectors? I don't have two spots available on my PSU for that. Which one do I need to use for the 6 pin?

I imagine i'd be using the red cables and plugging them into the red female fitting on the PSU. But the black connector thingy is confusing me a bit.

If a component has a spot for a power wire then hook a power wire up to it. If there are any extra power wires coming from the power supply then you can just tuck them out of the way somewhere. Just because the power supply has 10 power wires and you only have 4 components that need power, doesnt mean the remaining 6 wires have to be hooked up to something. If the power wire fits properly onto a device then it can be used on that device.
