Adding items to "Places" in Ubuntu (8.10)

I have this dedicated "Downloads" folder in my Home folder where all my downloads are automatically saved (Firefox & all download managers). Now, I want to/need to access the stuff over here pretty often, so I come up with this bright idea that "hey, I'll add the folder to my Places menu"... so I right-click the taskbar and hit "Edit Menus" but no... "Places" ain't there... only Applications & System. Is there a way to add items to the "Places" menu?

It's very easy to do this.

Open the folder you want to have in "Places" then from the menu bar "add bookmark". Done.

:)

Hah thanks, really quite simple... oh and another question now that we're at it: If you add enough items in the bokmarks, the bookmarks in "Places" will be displayed in a separate sub-menu... is there a way to keep this from happening (not that I needed it now, I just noticed it when I first added the home folder itself by accident in addition my downloads folder).

Avoiding "Places" being put into a submenu

This is exactly what I'm looking for. I had thought that it was the upgrade to 10.10 that did away with most of my "Places" and put them into "Bookmarks" but now I see it was simply that I had so many "Places" that they were put into a sub-menu. I removed a few and now they're back where I'm used to. How can I continue to add places to this menu without having them go into a separate "Bookmarks" menu within "Places?"
