Adding "loose" USB's to case

Hi all.

I have an old case that I want to use on a new build (looks nice and is practical). It doesn't have any USB's etc on the front of it. Do you know where I can get "loose" USB ports to attach (to the 'Front USB' connector on my mobo)...? Or is it going to be a case of getting a scrapped PC and taking them from there..? I want them on the front instead of a PCI Card for easy access etc.

Thanks in advance, Doug.

EDIT: PS, I am in the UK! Thanks

Not quite what you're asking for, but judging from your Post, this is what you're going to want. Find the appropriate UK-based site. Any suggestions Danny?

Edit: Aww crap. I just noticed you specifically want on the Front. Scratch that above link then. Sorry! They are out there (hubs that you can plug into the MoBo), but unless you have a spot on the front of your ase, you're either going to be doing some cutting or have cables laying everywhere.

You're probably going to have a hard time trying to find one to buy, so like you said, you could take it from an old case, but it'd be a lot of messing around.

Jay has a great idea, you could buy a PCI USB Card. This will give you 4 extra USBs on the back. They also have 1 internal USB slot, you could buy an extension cable and run it from this slot, to the front of your case.

We did this with my Dad's PC, he didn't have any USB 2.0's on the front, so we just ran a cable through.

Hope this helps.

Cheers for your replies guys, I was going to do what you suggested Kornowski, but then after trawlling through pages of eBay i found this. don't know whether it will work, or if it will actually have the connectors pictured, but for 99p I thought I'd give it a go.

Cheers, Doug.

That would be ideal, except the case doesn't have any spare bays showing (its one where the whole thing is flush fronted kinda thing with little gaps for a CD drive and floppy drive)

Eh didn't notice the UK replies....man your prices really suck on Ebay....don't you have a newegg uk type site?

99p. Prices suck..??? Thats like 60 cents dude! We have a couple of newegg type sites but their all pricey compared to dodgy old eBay!

I want them on the front instead of a PCI Card for easy access etc.

I am basing it off USB front panels based off your original post it hinted front USB mount not back.

UK Ebay for the 2 models I linked roughly 60-80 euro each.

Also reason I linked the smaller one is if you have a floppy drive you can rip it out and put it there like I did :)

Sorry to mislead you. I am gonna butcher that product that I linked to (just to get the USB ports off) and then get my hacksaw out on the front of the case. And mount them in there. It's just that it has the little connector as opposed to the PCI.

The floppy-drive one would be ideal, but the case has got a really thin slot in the front of the fascia with the rest behind so its not gonna work. Like this for example:

Thanks for your input and time though! I don't know why the bits were in Euros on eBay.co.uk, we have pounds in the UK!!

Cheers, Doug.

Ah that sucks...yeah np sorry I didn't get the original idea ^-^

Though anything is possible...question is how many hits will it take with a hammer.

Let us know how it turns out.

Dug, you mentioned only having the one 3.5" drive bay, and it seems like you don't want to sacrifice your floppy drive. Have you considered something like this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4115642&CatId=287

Not sure how much it would equate to in pounds, but it will plug right into your internal USB jack and save you some case-cutting. Floppy, USB, and several other media card types. Only one USB, but a small, cheap USB hub like this will work: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817801025

Again, that would be ideal Jay, but my case is similar to the picture I posted, where there is literally a floppy disk thickness slot to put the disk through, and the rest of the drive front is hidden by the case fascia, it's not that I want a floppy drive. It's a uber budget build - £50 ~ $80 ish, hence the case being recycled (although it is quite a nice one).

Cheers, Doug.
