adding old ME hardrive as secondary to new Compaq XP ws

I puchased a new Compaq Presario SR2039X. I want to install my old hardrive and make it a secondary as I have all my photos and my MS documents on it. I installed it last night, using the old cable and plugging the slave on the motherboard. However, when it booted up, it boot up as ME not XP...is there a config during start-up (F1) that has to be reset...and can it be done on the ME bootup? How about jumper settings?

thanks in advance,

You can check in the BIOS if you can change the boot order, but most likely the SATA drivers will need to be installed. Unless they are installed, SATA drives default to slave, reguardless if the IDE hard drives are set to master or slave.

sata is hot swappable right? why not just plug it in after booting up in xp. then uninstall me from there.

Guys, I don't see him saying anything about SATA, if the Compaq came with an SATA drive it's extremely safe to assume he doesn't need SATA drivers and it is a boot order misconfiguration in the BIOS, that's the thing you press F1/F8/F10/Del or whatever key when you see the compaq logo (it will tell you which one at the bottom of the screen). Boot order will be in one of the immediate sub menus, there should be about 6 or so and some will be obvious that they don't have what you need (ie hardware monitor)

Most likley since it came out of a old computer with ME on it I dont think it would be a sata drive. What Cromewell said is probably right, your boot order needs to be changed.
