Adding space to hard drive on Dell

I am totally unfamiliar with how to add more space to my Dell computer. I would appreciate any assistance. I have a :

Dimensions 3000, Intel Pent 4 at 2.8Ghz with 1MB Cache

1GB RAM DDR SDRAM at 400MHZ

80GB 7200 RPM Ultra ATA Hard Drive

I have used half of my space already and desperatly need more. I am not sure if I should use an external or add to the drive.

Thank you!

You can't add to your drive without a RAID setup which I doubt the system supports. From your lack of knowledge(no offence ^^; ) And possibly voiding the warrenty, you might be best to get an external. Using USB2.0, they are pretty fast anymore.

You can't add to the drive. You have to buy a another hard drive and put that in (you don't need to take the one thats in there out)

You either can buy a new hard drive, or buy an external one. I would say that internal ones are faster and would be better for permanent use. All you simply have to do is go to a store or get it online, pick out a hard drive you want, and the type, i dont know if yours is IDE or SATA. If its sata, you can just buy it and plug it in, if its IDE, you have to se it to slave.

ask a friend to help you out.... You have half your hd space gone 40gb of a 80gb drive, and your worried? Delete some crap, burn it... or go buy another hd. Hd installation is easy and DOES NOT have to be raid enabled... Just a plug and play kinda crap.. Very Easy, if you need help im or pm or email me... Ill help out-

Not necesarily. It depends on the current configuration
Too true :)

Still, many Dell machines have a BIOS I really hate because they don't auto-detect a new hard drive so the poor user wonders why the disk isn't seen, so has to know to hit F2 then hit the right options to enable a second drive on the right channelr because if enabled but not present the machine beeps and waits for the user to press F1 (to ignore) or F2 (to enter BIOS) before continuing to boot.

Friendly? I think not.
tayzzzz, if you really need to add another disk, fine, be sure to ask in this forum how to get it seen by the system if it's a problem.

Huh? I've never had a problem with my Dell detecting a new HD. never had to press F1 or F2 to change things.

I've got six HDs in my Dell :)

You have to either buy a new hardrive or get rid of some stuff if you want more space. But if you buy an external hardrive they cost more than one you put inside your comp.

Unless you're a magical ninja that can relay the magnet tracks on the disk (which I can gurantee you aren't :P) you can't change the max size of a hard drive. Now let's either provide more answers or stop posting
