admin but comp says no admin

last time i was installing norton anti virus 2002 in my cousins comp but the windows installer gave a dailouge box

sayin you cannon install nav. you need administrator access. but i was logged in admin account. i could never

solve the problem untill i reinstalled winxp professional with or without formating(i forgot).
Now at my home i tried to reinstall service pack2 for winxp professional and it said you need administrator

access to update win xp. but here also am the admin. similarly when ever i tried to lauch system restore it says

you need admin access to use it. here alos m logged in frm admin only.
 
Try booting in safe mode and confirming privelages there. Look and make sure for a fact that your account has admin privs.

check in your bios and see what you have set there.
is it asking you for a password or some sort of ID.?

you could have a password protect setup by mistake.
also check your "profile" folder and see what user you have setup.
 
I don't think this is a BIOS problem If you talking about a BIOS password.
go into the control panel then users accounts, then select the user accounts icon. This will allow you to mange your user accounts. It will show all the user accounts on the computer and if they are administrators or limited users.
 
pressing winkey+l will lock my comp. and y ud it work on one of the guest ac and not on my admin ac??? give me a damn good answer. will you?
