ADSL ROUTER/MODEM vs USB ADSL MODEM

Hey all, hope you're having a good day!
Question: Recently moved my computer to another room in the house, and decided to use this ETHERNET ADSL ROUTER/MODEM instead of the usual USB modem I used before, for the convinience of always being online and not having to physically connect onto the internet. However, I seem to be getting speeds about half that of the other modem.
Now this may be a really silly question but what is affecting the speed?
By the way, I'm in New Zealand and im on a 512Kbps ADSL plan. (one of the fastest available here believe it or not!)
Old modem in old room = Around 250-300kbps
New modem/router = Around 125kbps
I suppose if no one has any suggestions on how to tweak or improve this setup so I get a better speed, I could just go back to using the older modem, but I would still like to know why this has happened.
Greatly appreciated.

hmm...thats very odd...usually ethernet is way faster than USB i know some people who argue this because they say USB can handle a large amount of data but experience doesn't lie...hard to say whats causing it i've always hated routers ever since i had dsl through verizon and they sent me a modem/router combo might be a simple driver issue i would check into those and make sure they are the correct version and up to date
