adusting subtitle screen space

I converted some avi files with subtitles to SVCD using Nero. When I played the SVCD on my standalone DVD player, the subtitles went beyond the screen making it very difficult/impossible to read. Is there a way to fix this? The subtitles were "burned in" so I don't have a separate subtitle file.

I also noticed that when watching the converted avis, the subtitles look smaller on the screen than if you watch them from the computer. Is there a way to make them bigger?

Maybe it's weird answering my own post, but this might help somebody else:P

After a lot of searching and going round in circles, I found out that the reason the "burned" subtitles are cut off is because of OVERSCAN. Here's the definition from videohelp.com:

The area at the edges of a television tube that is covered to hide possible video distortion. Overscan typically covers about 4 or 5 percent of the picture.

I've found 2 ways to fix it:

1. Use a freeware utility called FitCD to adjust the overscan
2. Adjust the overall size the video output by putting borders on all sides (using avisynth script)

Use google to find out the details of doing it :) [So as not to make this post long]
