Advice Building Gaming Computer

So I'm trying make my first computer build and need some advice on the components. I'm trying to build a computer for majority of gaming, some web-surfing, and I may want to start uploading photos in the future. I want a computer that will be able to play Blu-Ray and DVD and play music. I'm hoping to replace my console by playing PC games but I don't need the highest top-notch computer possible. I'm trying to find components that are recent since I will be building my computer in about three or six months from now. I'm trying to collect components that will cost around $2000-$2600 in six months to complete in total, but I'll go up to about $3000 or $3200 if I need to. Or just components that will cost that much now.

So far I'm thinking about these components:

PC Case - Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower Black Case

Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo E8500, Intel Core i7 920 2.66GhHz Processor, or Intel Core i7 960

Motherboard - Gigabyte EX58-UD3R Motherboard or ASUS P6T Motherboard

Hard Drive - (2)Western Digital Caviar 1TB SATA2 7200RPM Hard Drive

Optical - Pioneer BDR-205 Blu Ray Burner(or LITE-ON Black 4x Blu-Ray Rewriter) and Asus DRW-24B1ST DVD Burner

RAM - Patriot Extreme Viper 6GB DDR3-1600 memory or Corsair XMS3 Tri Channel 12GB

Video Card - Sapphire Radeon HD 5970 2GB

Sound Card - Creative Labs SoundBlaster X-FI Titanium

Power Supply - Corsair TX750W 750-Watt Power Supply

Any suggestions or advice?

I'd go for 2 samsung F1 1Tb, I've read they are pretty rapid, or maybe a SDHD for your operating system and 2 F1's. Also I'd wait for sandy Bridge. Also I'd go for th HD 6970 graphics card and lose some Ram 6Gb is more than enough, 3Gb would probably be enough, 12Gb is defiately overkill.
