Hi,
New to PC specs. Looking to buy 14 year old son a gaming computer that will last several years without struggling with any new game releases. Been quoted this one £1300. Can anyone say if this will run all games at at least 60fps 1080p with minimum frame drops at highest graphics?

A few things here.

1. Do not get the 450 watt psu for this build. Get at least a 550 watt unit as you are wanting the 8gb version gtx 1070 video card. And make sure its a decent brand. The vs series is pretty low from Corsair.
2. Highly recommend getting a 250 gb SSD drive as he will run into space issues on the 120gb very quick.
3. You don't want to be gaming on wifi unless that is your only option if you'll be too far from router. Might have to move router or run ethernet cable from pc to router.
4. Also recommend getting a dvd drive as some games will need to be installed by cd/dvd.

Agreed on first 2. WiFi is frequently fine, but wired is obviously preferred. I can't remember the last time I installed a game from a disc, it's been years for sure.

Only other thing I'd say is maybe think about a slightly better air cooler, those stock ones can get pretty noisy underload. Otherwise looks good.

Another reason to get a dvd drive is for when you need to run memtest or a hdd diagnostic test, they usually only run from cd. Might as well get it, you never know when you may need one.

I mean sure they don't hurt but they're pretty obsolete at this point and I'd take the 20 bucks over having a drive anymore. More people have flash drives laying around to burn that kind of software than CD's anyway.

Thank you.

Can I ask please? Which is the best to go for - i5 8th edition or i7 7th edition. Prices seem cheaper for i7 7th editions with other similar components but is this because they’re not as powerful?

I7 8700 is 6 core 12 thread while I7 7700 is only a 4 core 8 thread. Thats why the price difference. If you want 8th generation you can only use 300 series motherboards.

Thank you. What’s the difference though with i7 7th edition and i5 8th edition ? We’ve been quoted for the i5 8th edition, but looking around the i7 7th edition seems cheaper, but is that because it’s not as good?

We’ve been quoted for i5 8th gen and I’m just looking at others and noticed i7 7th gens seem much cheaper. I think there’s various ones? (You have probably noticed I don’t understand computers)!!

All 7th gen I7 cpu's available on newegg are over $300 in the USA. Like I said all depends on which I7, where you are buying it from and other things. You are doing the build price not single price. Who knows what brand parts they are using in that particular build?

You'll get much better quality buying parts and building it yourself if you know someone who can.

Thank you. I guessed as much. It’s not that straight forward is it as there’s lots to factor in. Thank you though.
