OK so I have been having bad luck with disc drives..I bought some 30 dollar sony combo drive off of newegg awhile back and the Cd part went bad and a friend gave me an older disc drive for temp and now that skips real and has become crappy. Not sure if its just bad luck or somthing I might need to change on my Mobo....also I am looking at getting a new drive any advice? I would like to spend around 50 for now.

Hey thanks guys..PC eye i think thats the one i bought last time and I actually had the same problem as on of the guys in the review..the CD part wouldn't auto run and some programs wouldn't recognize it...hmm weird

I got the Sony DRU530a dvd burner that is supposed to read from and write to cd-rs and rws. har! It will any dvd, dvd-r, or dvd-rw with no problems. I took a Sony CRX220 cd-r/rw writer out for this? The CRX220 was used primarily as a game drive and backup writer for the CRX225 bought on sale later just before that got moved down for the DRU530a that won't even read off of software disks.

I'll put my lack of wise against your bad luck any time.

I've had a variety of drives, from Lite-On to HP SCSI and I've never had a bad one yet. If you are someone who simply can't stand waiting for a read or burn, or wants dual layer capability then it may be worth paying a bit more money for quality with speed. Other than that, they are so cheap it's almost a throwaway. Buying a new set of ink cartridges for your printer may be more money.

Perhaps you haven't worked with a large enough variety of media to see what others are running into. I've had good results using 4x media on a 16x writer for data dvds without issues. Some of the burns there see 20minutes easily. Try reading a software disk or cd-r and the drive itself is not geared for it.
