Hi everyone, as advised previously the HDD was in fact DOA, so I purchased a M550 SSD, likewise advised to do so. The fan also needed replacing, done!
RE: Dell Latitude 620d.
As it was a clean install using windows 8.1, I connected the new SSD, then ran windows 8.1. About 40% - 50% way through the message popped up, errors, DPC-Watchdog-Violation, blue screen and said my computer would restart. It did restart and went through the process so far to select where to install windows and no partition could be found at all, Nothing!. If I hit F2 going into bios, it does show 128gb HDD in system info. Help please....

To start with what mode do you have your SATA controller in?

After that. Looked around alittle and it seems like a big problem with 8 on a SSDs with old Firmware. See if the SSD has a firmware update.

Hit F2 couldn't find anything with regards to the settings of sata mode (novice). No there are no updates to the one just purchased. I did some research and found the same, major probs. Thanks for your help..
