Advice on adding new SSD

Did you check the bios to make sure its booting to the ssd first? If you are still getting the dual boot option at start up then it seems its booting to the old hard drive first. Can you post a screenshot of disk management?

That image you posted explains nothing.

You can change the bootloader behavior in msconfig, I'd just delete the other entry as Windows made it 'easy' for you to boot into either OS instance.

In my laptop it shows like in the attached screenshot. Should I click on the checkbox - Make all boot settings permanent after clicking delete with Windows 10 (D:\Windows) selected?

Yep since you said you formatted the drive I'd delete that one. You shouldn't get a menu anymore either as you only have one boot option into the new SSD installation now.
