Advice on choosing a laptop pls

Hi I am currently looking at buying a new laptop for my husband's birthday as his old vaio is dying! As a Mac owner myself I have very little knowledge of pcs and what I should be looking at. Brand wise he has always had a Sony vaio so I'm guessing that I would be best to stick with what he knows and likes.

Things I am looking for in a laptop is one he can use predominantly for work usage (so no super dinky screens). He often travels with it so something relatively robust but no weighing a tonne. Good memory space for work graphics (he works in property development so often needs it for plans and projections etc). Just generally a good, all round laptop that he can use for work and pleasure. He isn't in to gaming and we have an iPad for downloading movies etc so that isn't so important.

Any feedback or advice would be great as my mind is boggling at the moment with all the choice! Thanks
 
first and most important q is, what's the price range, second is where you live, country, so we know what sites to look at, if us most people here like the site newegg thanks to good customer service and replacement of dead on arrival parts, which is rare, and great prices normally along with constant sales both daily, weekly, monthly, holiday, and semi/bi-annual sales, they just have a ton of sales, and on top of that they have reviews of almost everything by people who bought it, if uk then overclocker.co.uk, i'm in u.s. so not sure what's so special other than good prices and trustworthy site. also, is he a multitasker and does he want alot of power in there.
 
Hiya thanks for the response. I am based in London uk. I want to spend around the £800-£900 price range and probably a Sony vaio. Yes he's a bit of a multitasker and I think a good amount of power would be needed. Nothing super charged but something adequate for work, emails, documents etc.

overclockers have wider range, but they are usually more expensive.
 
If you want it portable, probably looking at 13 - 14"

Last Question: Will your husband office have spare monitor for him to connect to laptop?
I always find 13" - 14" laptop are too small for drawings.

anything with an i5/7, preferably a 2000 series but others are fine, a 64-bit win7, 4 or more gb's of ram, 750gb's or more hard-drive should be fine as long as it is a decent brand.
