Advice on Upgrading System For Occulus Rift

With the release of the Rift on the way, I want to upgrade my system to work well with it. My budget is high and I don't mind spending roughly 1k on a nice upgrade. I would need more RAM, better video card, maybe a better processor, and a solid state hard drive would be nice as well. What compatible parts would you recommend for a nice upgrade? Do they have any websites with tools that recommend upgrades for you?

The system requirements for the Occulus Rift:

NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
8GB+ RAM
Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
2x USB 3.0 ports
Windows 7 SP1 or newer

Yes, thanks. I have a dvd drive, case, keyboard, mouse, speakers, all that. I have an 850watt power supply I believe. Pretty sure it can power anything. I'm checking out your recommendations now.

This is what I made based on my current motherboard.

Not sure on 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory VS 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory. Both should be compatible with my motherboard according to this site.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 upgraded to EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked

Current non-SSD upgraded to Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Only thing is Occulus recommends 3.7 ghz processor. My current processor is 3.4 ghz, so I guess I should upgrade that as well.

Unfortunately, you are really looking at a new motherboard, processor and memory as the AM3 platform is dead. Performance on the 965 isn't that great.

Yea I was just thinking that, thanks for the advice. I'm considering building a whole new system and just selling the one I have now.

Well what I already listed for you is right at $1000 dollars but thats without a case, hdd, dvd drive and now you want an SSD. If you want to stay with the 1K budget then we would have to drop down to an AMD build. But again, performance would suffer.

Still would need a case though.
