Hi. I need some advice. My comp. was a 98 se. I upgraded to xp. Everything was fine then i defraged. I lost files etc,. Now i turn it on... nothing. I put in the boot floppy...nothing. I did change the order of boot up in the bios to 1.floppy,2cd,3hard drive.I did scandisk/all/surface and it did not find any erros. Can anyone tell how i can reload 98. I'll try anything before i have to take it in. Keep in mind i'm computer challenged. I don't know how to start in safe mode or even if i can. Thanks

Download a 98 bootdisk. boot to the floppy, Run FDISK, delete partition, create a new fat32 partition, shut down on reboot type FORMAT C, let it format, reboot click start computer with cd rom support-make sure the 98 cd is in the rom after it through installing drivers type in SETUP and the install should start

When you installed XP did you remember to set the first boot device to hard drive or leave it set at cd rom? What type of XP disk did you use an upgrade or full installation disk? When you put in the boor floppy you said you saw nothing but ran scandisk? When booting from a floppy you will only see a dos screen.

Did you see the XP desktop after the installer finished copying the setup files to the drive and the system restarted? You could be seeing a hardware problem where wiping the drive and going to 98 back on won't work either.
