I'm going to be purchasing a used laptop on ebay soon. I was looking at a Thinkpad 600E with 160 MB RAM, Pentium 2 400 MHZ Processor. It is $141. There is another model for $161 that has 256 MB, 500 MHZ and a Pentium 3 Processor. Is it worth it to spend the extra $20?

So you are saying it is worth it. How about if I could get the Pentium 2 for $100 instead of $141?

honestly, they are both pretty old technology. i really dont know the strengths/weaknesses of these processors, i just look at raw power. i guess $100 is a good deal for a p2, if it fits your budget.

i wouldn't settle for anything less then a pentium 3, unless it truly is only going to be used for word processing. And i also feel that 256mb of RAM is the minium one should run on XP.

so option 2...for $161 is my advice

Should I try winning the one for $100 or buy the $156. The one for $56 extra dollars comes with a WiFi Card,450 MHZ,P3,192 MB,20 GB Drive.

Thanks for all of your advice. I ended up buying a Pentium 3 450 MHZ, 20 GB HD, Windows XP Pro, 192 MB RAM. It came with a Wireless Card as well. I got it for $156 with shipping. Once again thanks for your advice.
