ADWCleaner Question

Actually I have 2 questions:

Once ADWCleaner has ran and cleaned up my PC, I noticed a folder on my C: drive named ADwcleaner. In the folder are 2 more folders, Backup and Quarantine. Then more folders under both. Is this a problem? Should they be deleted? I guess I am wondering is the items being quarantined enough or should they be permanently removed?

When I run Malewarebytes, it quarantines the items. You can then go into history and actually delete all quarantined items. Is this normal procedure?

I have learned a lot on this forum about removing male-ware and would like to learn more, being I'm in school learning computers and networking. I really love doing this, helping people fix their issues with their computers. Thanks for your guidance in my quest to learn.

As long as you know for sure that you don't need them. Years ago, if you quarantined a good file but something bad was attached to it, then your system would have issues. I know adwcleaner tags NCH software as bad when its not, not sure if they have fixed this yet or not. I would give it some time to make sure you have no ill effects and then delete if you wish.

FYI. I ran a boot scan using Avast. It found the stuff in the ADwcleaner folder and got rid of them. All is good. On another note, it also found stuff that Malewarebytes and Adwcleaner did not find.

John, thanks for recommending Avast. Its works great. Also, I noticed that when you install it, you need to go in and set it for automatic updates. Ran into to one I installed and it was not set that way. Just FYI.

I haven't seen an issue with Avast any time I install it on a clients machine. The process I do is

1. install
2. register
3. change some settings
4. wait for it to update itself and it always does

So I can't explain why it wasn't set for automatic updates unless Avast was installed before and some settings was leftover from the previous install.
