Aero Glass on Win 8.1

So I recently decided to upgrade to win 8.1 after playing around on a newer netbook. I am not a huge fan of the tiles section and stick to the desktop portion. I hate not having a start menu so I instantly paid for and downloaded Start8 by objectdock. But, now I kinda miss Win 7 aero glass. I tried a few free ones but, nothing seems to work good.

I really like this one but the free version has a watermark and I don't know how much I have to pay for a key

Does anyone know of a good way to get aero back? How about custom themes? Anyone have some good win 8 themes from deviantart?

You paid for the start button? Classic Shell is free...

That's what I was thinking when I read this earlier.

G25, are you sure the netbook can support Aero? Normally if the GPU is weak it'll run in simple mode.

Maybe I did

Yes the netbook is powerful (hp dm1) but, I am talking about my desktop

That video just shows how to get aero glass back not the start menu!! Not at all what Start8 does

I found a good theme on deviantart and I think I am sticking with this for a while

Nice theme, aero is something I see a lot of people missing and the main reason I believe it is gone is MS and their convergence,

MS is building one OS to rule them all (Windows 10 is testament to that) and when considering operating system design which will run from something like desktop to tablet with the exact same code base you need to understand the specifications of that tablet as the GPU is probably severally lacking and a flat theme will provide much better performance and battery then aero.

On the upside when I get home from work tonight I will do some digging as I have seen someone successfully bring full aero back and I will find that guide for you, however I do believe that guide was written from Windows 8 not 8.1 so I am not sure if it will even work anymore. We will see.

I think the reason it's gone is because Microsoft wanted a new design for Windows 8... you know, the same reason why 7 looks different to Vista and Vista looks different to XP and so on. ;)

And you didn't need a powerful computer to run Aero really. I reckon today's tablets could easily run it. Even my little Atom netbook ran Aero on Windows 7.

My atom notebook ran 7 too (originally came with XP) but after installing 7, it only had Windows Basic theme. Aero wouldn't work with it.
